This course will provide thorough, theoretical and practical introduction to macromolecular crystallography, including,

1) Crystallisation of proteins and nucleic acids.

2) Crystals and symmetry.

3) Diffraction theory. Bragg's law and Fourier synthesis.

4) The phase problem and how to solve it. Heavy atom methods and molecular replacement.

5) Structure refinement and presentation.

In addition to lectures, participants will engage in practicals, presentations, and computer sessions and solve two different protein structures as part of the course.
